 Blu-ray (not Blue-ray) is also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD).
It is the name of a new optical disc format.
Blu-ray format allows recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large
amount of data. Currently there are two options available to consumer: 25 GB (one-layer) and 50 GB (two-layer)
disks. In other words, each blu-ray disk has more than five to ten times the storage capacity of a traditional DVD.
Single-layer blu-ray disk can hold over 10 hours of a DVD-quality video, while two-layer blu-ray disk will hold over
20 hours of a DVD-quality video. Alternatively, you can fit shorter video at high definition (HD).
Extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs provides unprecedented opportunities to companies
producing video, especially for corporate training programs, as well as for
colleges offering distance learning and remote education programs. Course materials previously requiring 5, 10, 15, or more DVDs can now
be distributed on 1 or 2 Blu-ray disks. At the same time, you can now record new courses (or re-tape the old ones) at high definition
allowing HD video enhance learning experience.
